if she were my daughter...

With great blessing comes great responsibility to be a blessing.  Can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought/said this…it weighs heavily on my heart regularly.

As a kid, the day a local church delivered food to my family’s door is markedly etched in my memory.  They did so anonymously, knowing the cupboards were bare and my dad, who’d been laid off, would not accept charity in any form.

To this day I cannot waste food…I just can’t.   To this day I am amazed, through every stage of my adult life, at the blessing that’s been entrusted to me.  Today my portrait business exists to offer hope to a hurting world…to be the hands and feet of our Savior who loves without limits.

My clients know we have a regular “Giving Back” segment in our newsletter to raise awareness of needs within the community, globally and locally.  I believe Scripture when it says, “the world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.  The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.”

So I wanted to lend voice to encourage you to attend a benefit concert coming up Friday night, featuring This the Rescue.  If you are looking for a great family night out while helping to teach your children about the blessings that come from generosity, then join my boys and me as we celebrate the night at McDaniel College.

This the Rescue has been featured on ESPN and their concert is a fundraiser for SIS, She is Safe.  You can hear TTR's music by clicking here. SIS was begun by a kind and servant-hearted woman who has a lioness heart.  She steps into some of the worst red light districts of the world to rescue girls who are being exploited.  She refuses to back down because she knows what's at stake.

I had a chance to meet Michelle Rickett a few years ago, at a friend’s home, as she shared why she began SIS.  On the surface, she appeared to be a regular suburban mom...then she began to share her story and I was reminded how deceiving looks can be.  It was incredible to hear how she did not shrink back from the dangers that surrounded her attempts to rescue girls that could be our daughters...all I kept thinking as she spoke was ‘what if that was my daughter?!’  I knew I wanted to get involved to help SIS’s efforts.

This concert is a fun and easy way for families in Carroll County to support SIS's efforts.  Chris & Jenna will also be performing their music as well.   Hope to see you there!  I’ll be the one with two cameras strapped to my side!
